If you’re anything like the Abacus Self Storage crew, you’re watching the Toronto housing bubble through your fingers as if it were the upcoming IT remake. If not, this article might change your mind.
According to BMO and TD, Toronto’s housing bubble is inflating at rates it can’t sustain. In a single year, the housing prices skyrocketed by 23%. Economists say the bubble will finally pop, but the city won’t see relief until 2019. Until then, the bubble will keep expanding until it covers more than just the Big Smoke.
We apologize to any of our regular readers who thought they escaped our blog without having to read about taxes, for today we’re posting our inaugural tax article. True, with May 1 as the last day to file, you may think we’re late. Tax season is over, after all, but here at Abacus Self Storage we aren’t worried about the ins and outs of filing your return. Our concern is your growing pile of tax documents taking over your home office or place of business.
Well, gentle readers, it looks like spring is here to stay in Toronto and the GTA. Though it’s slightly cooler than we remember this time last year, we here at Abacus Self Storage are just grateful the area isn’t struggling with flood waters like our neighbours in Quebec. Since we can only expect the temperatures to rise and the days to lengthen, that means garage sale season is gearing up.
When Canadians run out of space, they’re turning to storage facilities like Abacus to house their belongings. Unfortunately, many of them don’t use their unit to its full potential, leading to a waste of effort, time, and money.
At just 150, Canada is a relatively young country within the global context, but it’s still a significant milestone for our nation. Though we’re 3 months away from the official date, most of the country is already figuring out ways to celebrate such an important anniversary. In February, we spoke of Parks Canada’s nation-wide Discovery Pass, which allows free admission to any of the national parks, historic sites, and marine conservations found in this great land. And now, VIA Rail is joining in on the festivities.
Whether it’s the ingredients for your next pie or that photograph of your great-great aunt Sylvia, you could be keeping the belongings of your home in the wrong place. Most of us don’t give our storage options a second thought as long as items have a place that doesn’t cause clutter. As a result, our attics, basements, and sheds become our go-tos when we need to hide something away. While that’s certainly one way of solving your space issues, it doesn’t take into account environmental conditions that can damage your belongings.
In an increasingly digital world, every conceivable product has a smart version hooked up to Alexa for sale — including the kitchen sink! By all rights, analogue items like physical books and vinyl records should be hurtling towards extinction as e-readers and streaming sites offer cheaper (and in some cases free) versions that are better than their predecessors; yet here we are in 2017, just months after LP sales have hit a 28 year high back in 2016.
This year, Canada is celebrating a huge accomplishment. We’re turning 150 years old, and the Government of Canada is commemorating the nation’s sesquicentennial anniversary by offering free annual discovery passes to all Canadians. The pass covers admission to the many national parks, historic sites, and marine conservations found coast to coast in order to show off what the country has to offer.
Are you suffering from the post-holiday blues? After the hustle and bustle of December, it’s hard not to. Between the chores, the cooking, the socializing, and the mandatory holly and jolly of the season, you were constantly busy. In comparison, January’s return to reality is a bit of a disappointment. It doesn’t help that you have to clean up after last year’s festivities. The tree, decorations, seasonal dishes — they all have to go away until it starts all over again in 11 months.
